Ingredients
6
cups
white rice
6
tablespoons
isopropyl alcohol
70%
food coloring
6
mason jars with lids
Instructions
Pour 1 cup of rice into each mason jar.
Measure 1 tablespoon of rubbing alcohol into each jar.
Drop 20 drops of food coloring into each jar. We used red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.
Seal the jars and shake vigorously until all the rice is evenly coated in color.
Spread the colored rice in a thin layer on a plate or baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let it air dry for about 1–2 hours.
When dry, store the rice in an airtight container or sensory bin. It will last for many months—probably years!
Notes
When dry, rainbow rice will not stain hands.
You may compost rainbow rice with your brown materials when it's time to discard.
Do not eat rainbow rice!
Always supervise young children during sensory play to prevent accidental ingestion.
