Oh my friends, the flu hit us hard this past week! High temperatures, achy-shaky bodies, bone-rattling coughs and green galore. Yuck. Being so-sick-your-world-stops stinks, so I thought I would share a collection of the very best cold and flu fighting DIYs from around the web, as well as my favorite Cold & Flu Fighting Stovetop Potpourri. Hopefully the flu won’t visit your home, but if it does, I want you to be more prepared than I was!

Why Cold and Flu Fighting Stovetop Potpourri?
Simmering potpourri on the stove releases moisture into the air, which can relieve coughing and congestion. Citrus, clove, rosemary, cinnamon and eucalyptus are an unstoppable germ-fighting team, and are often found together in essential oil blends.
Ingredients and Directions:
Combine 1 liter of water, 5 orange slices, 1 tbsp whole cloves, 1 tsp dried rosemary, 2 cinnamon sticks, and 3 drops of eucalyptus essential oil in a large pot. Place on a wood stove, or simmer on your stovetop. Breathe deep (if you can!) and enjoy the fragrant steam. In my opinion, this stovetop potpourri loosens phlegm, purifies the air, and improves health and wellness.

I’m not sick, but I might try this over the weekend anyway! I bet it smells great.

Lovely, Melissa. I simmer natural potpurris on the stove from time to time but never though to make one for when we’re under the weather. I bet it is so comforting. 🙂

This is a great idea. It must be so soothing when you’re not feeling well. This would probably be helpful for people who were feeling stressed too.

That’s a great idea, I hope though that I won’t have to use it against any cold soon (or later), still nice to make the house smell lovely.
