Apple Outline Printable
Do you go apple picking every year? Apples are nutritious and delicious, and they provide a great topic for kids to study further. Extend the fun and learning and make a full unit out of apples. Check out these simple ideas:
Apple Science
- Try an apple taste test
- Do a sink or float science experiment
- Use the five senses with an apple
- Explore the parts of a flower
- Read about the life cycle of an apple
- Learn about the seasons
Apple Math
- Sort apples by color or size
- Make a pattern with apples
- Graph the apples by color or size
- Count how many apples there are in certain groups
- Practice addition and subtraction
Reading & Writing About Apples
- Borrow some apple-themed books from the library
- Watch some great kid-focused videos about apples, apple orchards, and making cider
- Start an apple-themed family read-aloud
- Write a story or poem about apples
Apple Art
- Create an apple craft
- Make apple prints by cutting the apple in half and stamping on paper (pierce a fork into the apple for little hands and easy holding)
- Use our apple outline as a coloring page instead of a craft template
One of the things I like best about this project is the fine motor skill practice. From punching the holes in the paper to gluing the elements on to the printable, these actions can strengthen little hands.
Ultimately, this will help develop the skills necessary for handwriting, buttoning, tying laces, and so much more.
Supplies Needed for Apple Outline Craft
- Free Printable Apple Outline
- White, red, yellow, brown, and green cardstock
- Circle paper punch set or EK Tools Confetti Dots Paper Punch
- Glue
- Scissors
Directions for Apple Outline Craft
1. Print the large apple outline on white cardstock, then cut it out with scissors.
2. Use the paper punch set to create several sizes of colored circles. We used red, yellow, brown, and two shades of green.
3. Starting at the top of the apple template with the stem, fill in the outline with the cardstock circles.
The EK Tools Confetti Dots Paper Punch (which is what we used) will provide all the circles you need, but if you can’t find one, you may need to use a standard hole punch for the stem.
4. Continue filling in the apple pattern, layering small circles on top of the large circles.
5. Your apple outline craft is complete!
6. Make an apple in every color! They are perfect for displaying on bulletin boards and the refrigerator!
Take it Further
- Read Ten Apples Up on Top! by Dr. Seuss. Make 10 paper apples, then glue them on paper from bottom to top to make a tower, like in the book.
- Use this craft to keep little hands busy during a movie or rainy day.
- Glue a second copy of the apple outline behind your craft version to make a card.
