Apple Hedgehog Craft
Goodness, I can’t believe September is nearly halfway over. Have you been apple picking yet? We haven’t had time to go, but I did sit down last week to design a new apple-themed craft for you. (With our viral hedgehog template, of course!)
With this fall paper craft, I used plastic wiggly eyes rather than stickers or the paper eyes that are included with the template. For a creative indoor apple picking twist that is fun for toddlers and preschoolers, try hiding your child’s prepared apples throughout your home for your little one to find! After “picking” the apple, invite them to place it on their hedgehog while counting and naming the color.

How to Make the Apple Hedgehog Craft
This easy craft is perfect for home or school. Follow the instructions below to learn how to make it.
STEP 1: Download and print the apple hedgehog craft template. Our Apple Hedgehog Craft Template is available in our Teachers Pay Teachers shop! After purchasing the template, download it to your device and then print it on white cardstock. We even included a selection of paper wiggly eyes so kids can design their own hedgehog.

STEP 2: Paint the hedgehog and apple templates. Use markers, crayons, paint, or colored pencils to color the patterns! We used our favorite Crayola Washable Paint.
STEP 3: Cut the templates. Use scissors to cut apart the hedgehog body and apples. Small children may need help cutting around the leaves and stem.
STEP 4: Put the craft together. Secure each apple to the hedgehog’s body with glue as pictured below.
STEP 5: Add the finishing touches! Draw a smile onto the hedgehog, then glue a wiggly eye and pom pom nose to the hedgehog’s face. Alternatively, use the paper eyes and nose included in the template.
Your hedgehog craft is complete! Use tape to hang the hedgehog to the refrigerator, a door, or your classroom, or enjoy gifting them to friends, family, or neighbors.
Take it Further
- Enjoy an apple taste-test, then paint the apples to match the one you like best!
- Practice patterning with the apples before you glue them to the hedgehog.
- Invite kids to paint the apples their favorite color, then share one with their friends/classmates! At the end of the activity, each child will have a multicolored hedgehog!
- Pair this craft with a book about hedgehogs, fall, or apple picking. Try The Very Helpful Hedgehog by Rosie Wellesley.
- Go apple picking, then make this craft!
- Make this craft while a yummy apple treat, such as apple crisp, is baking!
