Today while running various errands with the boys, we saw school supplies, autumn wreaths, and Halloween decorations on sale. Wait, what? It feels like just yesterday I was declaring summer with Wild Blueberry Lemonade, and now it’s time to buy fleece jackets and backpacks?
Not in this home. There is still time for chasing fireflies, catching frogs, and cooling off with water blaster games. It’s summer in Wisconsin for at least 42 more days, and we are going to enjoy every last bit of it, starting with this drink.
We’ve become partial to limeade this month. Not that the boys have had much of a choice (limes have been less expensive than lemons, and they don’t do the grocery shopping!), but they haven’t seemed to mind. We love this drink paired with Mexican food, as it’s sweet and sour, and is an amazing thirst quencher.

But today it was hot…so hot. We needed ice, and plenty of it. I ran several cupfuls through my food processor and made snow! After a brief summer snowball fight in the kitchen, I invited the boys to scoop it into jars. From there, I poured our homemade limeade into the jars so we could enjoy refreshing limemade slushies!
Thirsty yet?
- 13 limes (more or less, depending on your preference)
- 1 cup of sugar
- 3 liters of water
- Pour the sugar into a pitcher.
- Cut the limes in half, then juice them directly into the pitcher.
- Fill the remainder of the pitcher with about 3 liters of water.
- Serve over shaved ice.
What a treat! Just what my sweaty little guy needed!
Put that school supply list on hold for a while. Buy limes instead of crayons!

I love the snowball fight idea! You’re a wonderful mother and that limeade slush sounds downright delicious. I’ll wait til summer comes to Australia (once you’re done with it) and we’ll have some too.
