Directions for Popsicle Stick Haunted House
Making a craft stick haunted house is a joyful crafting experience! Follow the directions below to learn how to make them.
STEP 1: Print the templates. Print the popsicle stick templates on white cardstock and the tombstone epitaphs on grey cardstock. Some of our funny Halloween tombstone epitaphs include:
- Barry DeLive
- Anita Shovel
- Ben Ill
- Bea A. Fraid
- Doug McGrave (my personal favorite 😂)
There is a row of empty boxes at the bottom of the template just in case you wish to create your own.
STEP 2: Glue the popsicle sticks together. Use our free templates to create the shapes for the haunted house, tombstones, and fences. You will have to cut some of the craft sticks to the correct length.
Don’t forget to reinforce the back of the haunted house and tombstones with extra craft sticks (pictured below).
Tip: We like these shears for cutting popsicle sticks, but they are sharp—please keep away from kids!
STEP 3: Paint the popsicle sticks. Paint the popsicle sticks with acrylic paint. Use our photos as a guide, or choose your own colors!

STEP 4: Assemble the haunted house. We started by gluing down the black trim, followed by the roof. If desired, trim any popsicle sticks that stretch beyond the top of the roof.
STEP 5: Finish the doors and windows. Glue a small square-shaped piece of yellow cardstock to the upper portion of the house. Assemble the window around it, then put together the popsicle stick door.
STEP 6: Enjoy your craft! Now your popsicle stick haunted house is complete! If desired, glue a loop of Halloween ribbon behind it to make an ornament for your Halloween tree. We hot glued extra popsicle sticks to the bottom of our house to help it easily stand in our sensory bin.
Popsicle Stick Tombstones and Fences
Assemble and paint the popsicle stick tombstones and fences. These are super easy to make with our free printable template!
STEP 1: Make the tombstones. Assemble then paint the tombstones grey, then sponge paint white and grey paint over the top. Glue 1 epitaph onto each tombstone.
STEP 2: Make the fences. Assemble and paint the fences brown.
Now you are ready to play! Set up the haunted graveyard scene in a sensory bin filled with black beans. If desired, add small Halloween toys, figurines, and sensory bin materials for hours of creative play!
