Married together as a miniature craft tree, the smooth cork, fuzzy pom-poms, and rough pine cones function as a beautiful fall decoration or accessory to a child’s imaginative play.

How to Make a Colorful Fall Pine Cone Tree

Here in Central Ohio, fall is gently touching surrounding cities and towns. If you look carefully, you’ll notice the ever-so-subtle transition from vibrant green to muted yellow-green.

I just love it. Fall is my absolute favorite season!

To celebrate, my kids and I made fall pine cone trees with corks, pine cones, and autumn-colored pom poms we found at our local Lakeshore Learning Store.

To Make This Fall Tree Craft You Will Need

• pine cones
• fall colored pom poms
• corks
• low-temperature hot glue gun

Directions for Pine Cone Tree Craft

Glue 1 pine cone to the top of each cork. Check the corks carefully, as most are slightly curved on one end. Glue the pine cone to the rounded end so that the pine cone tree will stand easily.

Create visual interest by choosing pine cones that vary in size, color, and shape.

Invite kids to press the small pom poms into the pine cone. This is a fabulous fine-motor task! Take it further by inviting kids to use plastic tweezers to pick up and place the pom poms.

Repeat the process with more pine cones, corks, and pom poms!

We chose not to glue the pom poms to the pine cones because we wanted to be able to switch out our fall tree’s pom poms for white pom poms in the winter, green and pink pom poms in the spring, and assorted shades of green pom poms in the summer.
